Terra Drone Signs MoU with IGG, Part of UAE Defence Prime EDGE Group, to Begin Collaboration in Defence Applications Including Interceptor Drones for Counter-UAS Integration

Terra Drone Corporation, a leading drone and Urban Air Mobility technology company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is pleased to announce that, through its group company Terra Inspectioneering B.V., it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with International Golden Group L.L.C. (“IGG”), a UAE-based defence and security company headquartered in Abu Dhabi and part of the major defence prime EDGE Group.

Under this MoU, Terra Drone and IGG will begin collaboration in the counter-UAS field, focusing on defence applications including interceptor drones that can be integrated with counter-UAS systems.

EDGE Group leads the UAE’s defence industry, bringing together more than 35 companies across six core domains in the defence and security sector. IGG, a group company of EDGE, is one of the UAE’s leading defence and security integrators and a core company within EDGE Group. IGG provides products and services to the UAE Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Interior, and other government defence and security agencies, and is one of the key players in the defence industry in the Middle East.

The global security environment, particularly in the Middle East, has changed significantly. Since 2026, amid rising regional tensions surrounding Iran, drone threats have become an increasingly tangible security risk, while conventional air defence resources, including missile inventories, have come under growing pressure.

Media reports have highlighted a series of drone and missile attacks in the Middle East, including drone launches targeting maritime traffic around the Strait of Hormuz, drone attacks against Gulf states, and the use of loitering munitions in southern Lebanon. Against this backdrop, the ability to protect energy facilities, airports, ports, military bases, and urban infrastructure in a cost-effective manner has become increasingly important.

Conventional counter-UAS systems have primarily been built around radar-based detection, electronic warfare systems, and integration with high-cost missile systems. However, as new threats continue to emerge, including large-scale attacks by low-cost, small drones with resistance to electronic jamming, such as Shahed-type drones, there is growing demand for low-cost and agile physical interception capabilities.

At the same time, it is not easy for defence primes to develop all technologies in the rapidly evolving field of small unmanned aircraft and interceptor drones entirely in-house, particularly from the perspective of speed and investment efficiency. As a result, there is a growing global trend toward integrating new interceptor drone technologies developed by agile startups into the existing systems of major defence primes.

Overview of the Collaboration

Under the MoU signed with IGG, Terra Drone will advance collaboration in the counter-UAS field, focusing on defence applications that can be integrated with counter-UAS systems.

The main areas of collaboration include:

・Collaboration on defence applications for counter-UAS integration

Use of interceptor drones

・Joint study of operational environments, including sensors, payloads, ground control systems, and radar integration

Operational and technical collaboration

・Collaboration toward establishing sales, maintenance, and operational support structures in the Middle East

・Regional deployment of counter-UAS solutions starting from the UAE

Future Outlook

Terra Drone will combine IGG’s defence industry platform in the Middle East with the Terra Drone Group’s expertise in interceptor drones, reconnaissance drones, UTM, data integration, and operational support to develop counter-UAS proposals for military and government agencies, as well as critical infrastructure operators.

Starting with this collaboration in the Middle East, a region attracting significant global attention, Terra Drone will accelerate its expansion into the UAE market.
