Folding wing UAV amongst the many at Zhuhai Airshow

ASN 213

Now where have we seen that idea before?? DARPA please taek a bow. The ASN 213 has a 5 kg. takeoff weight with a 1 kg. mission payload. The fuselage measures around 1.5 meters, with a wingspan of 0.63 meters and a wingspan of 2 meters when the wings are fully extended. Its amongst at least 25 new designs on show at Chinas Zhuhai airshow this week. That is a record number of UAVs, according to show officials, and continuing evidence of China’s growing interest in unmanned technology.

Three Chinese companies – ASN Technology Group, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. (CASIC), and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. (CASC) produced most of the UAVs on display.

ASN Technology is the largest UAV production company in China, with a history of developing unmanned aerial platforms, including drones, since 1958, said a company press release. The primary customer is the Chinese military and the company controls more than 90 percent of the UAV market in China.

The one that caught our eye  named Avicopter, not to be confused we assume with this Avicopter was this proof of concept.

Avicopter

Looks great and perhaps it has a motor at the rear to handle forward flight hard to tell in this image. The only one I can find at the minute.
