Danish Airport Closures and Drone Sightings Fuel ‘Myths and Legends’ – Industry Cries Foul
In Copenhagen on Tuesday 24th September 2026, the Copenhagen Police and the Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET) deployed a DroneSentry-X Mk2 from Droneshield. Reported overnight by BT.
We can’t be sure if it was the version that only detects but the one that detects and disrupts. Ian Hudson and I looked last night to see if we could see any permanently installed CUAS gear at the airport. The only modern thing we could see was a phased array antenna at one end of a runway that we believe to be a TERMA surface movement radar. They do make CUAS gear but it’s much smaller.
Interestingly the Danish military two years ago started a modern radar upgrade specifically because of the Russian failed attempt to capture Ukraine. Ingenioren has the full details.

One can’t be certain of how many of these radars are operational but they will have the capability to detect anything that the Russians might send their way. This is a super dense array of radars over a fairly flat country.
Back to the DroneSentry gear, it will be detecting drones now, drones where they are not supposed to be. They will be DJI XYZ hobby owners down at the beach filming aircraft coming in or photographing houses for real estate nearby. This will be held up as see, we told you so. I’m not saying these drone flights are good and legal but it’s the reality of the situation.
The evidence that CUAS gear arrives on top of cars suggests that there is no permanent CUAS equipment at the airport, nor anyone qualified to operate it.
Just as in New York and Lakenheath Danish folks are going report drone mad, a further airport, Aalborg having closures overnight last night.
Note the word night! It’s always lights in the sky, be it planets or planes.
Denmark appears to have very robust radar defences that could spot a mouse pushing a tiny wheelbarrow.
We need track data from the military.
Otherwise an industry is yet again being tarnished by myths and legends.
I firmly believe the first sighting remains light aircraft OY-CDT and the rest are the result of panic now fueled by media misreporting. We have seen this all before.
