Ascend Engineering – Drone Flight Tester and Assembler

As a Drone Flight Tester, you’ll be responsible for assembling, flying and testing our multicopter, fixed-wing, and VTOL drone platforms in various manual and autonomous modes. You’ll work directly with our engineering team to evaluate software features, provide real-world feedback, and ensure safe and stable flight operations during test sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fly drones in manual, position, and mission flight modes (all within visual line of sight).
- Assembly of drone kits
- Test and evaluate new software features and system updates.
- Document flight results, report anomalies, and offer feedback for improvements.
- Assume manual control of the drone if the autonomous system behaves unexpectedly.
- Maintain a basic working understanding of flight mechanics and hardware configurations.
Requirements:
- Proficient in manual flight of multicopters, fixed-wing, and/or VTOL drones.
- Comfortable flying within visual line of sight in open outdoor environments.
- Ability to travel to Miller Meadow Airfield in Forest Park, IL during weekday hours.
- Basic mechanical understanding of drones—should have experience assembling drones or fixed-wing aircraft.
- Attention to detail and strong documentation habits.
Nice to Have:
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (If not currently certified, we will cover the cost to obtain it.)
Additional Information:
- Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
- Pay: $40.00 – $70.00 per hour – Depending on Experience
- Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
