Skylark Drones – Engineer – Systems (Type Certification)

We seek an Engineer – Drone Systems with Type Certification experience to oversee the design, validation, and integration of drone systems. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with industry standards, seamless system performance, and successful certification processes. Your expertise in mechanical design, system validation, and regulatory compliance will be key in advancing our drone technology.
Responsibilities
Core Functions
- Design of Complex Mechanical Systems: Lead the detailed design and analysis of intricate mechanical systems using 3D CAD software, ensuring robustness, reliability, and compliance with industry standards. Proficiently use GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) in design documentation and consider tolerance stack-ups in assemblies to ensure manufacturability and fit.
- Design Management: Manage the complete lifecycle of product designs from ideation to Pilot Production. Oversee the creation and maintenance of MOM (Methods of Manufacture) documentation, and ensure comprehensive 3D CAD design documentation, including specifications and product manuals, with adherence to GD&T standards.
- Validation & Verification of Design: Define and execute rigorous test plans for design validation. Analyse system performance under various conditions to ensure the integrity and quality of the design.
- Component Selection and Manufacturing/Sourcing: Select appropriate hardware components to ensure designs are producible and scalable. Guide tooling, fabrication methods, and assembly. Dive deep into tolerance stack-ups to guarantee design robustness and assist in sourcing and evaluating suppliers and vendors for specialized mechanical components.
- Integration and Testing: Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for the seamless integration of mechanical systems with electronics, software, and other system components, ensuring alignment in design parameters and tolerance considerations.
- Quality and Reliability: Champion the application of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups to ensure consistent quality across design iterations and manufacturing batches. Uphold the highest standards of quality throughout the design process and investigate and resolve any quality issues arising from design or manufacturing processes.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of System Integration processes, configurations, Design and System Engineering Reviews, Validation plan vs actual, and test results to facilitate troubleshooting and future development.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, quality assurance teams, and other stakeholders to align on project requirements and deliverables. Leverage 3D CAD for cross-functional design reviews and provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior mechanical engineers and technicians.
Qualifications
- BTech or MTech with specialisation in Aerospace, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical or a related field (preferred).
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to drone systems to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
- 1–4 years in a similar role with type certification exposure is a plus.
