About the Role: 

As the Assistant Chief Pilot for Finland, you will ensure Wing maintains compliance with national and regional regulatory requirements. You will be expected to take on specific Chief Pilot functions as delegated and specified by Wing’s Chief Pilot for US and Finland.  You will report to the Chief Pilot for US and Finland, supervise and manage Wing Flight Operations staff in Finland and work closely with US-based Flight Operations staff as well as Standards and Compliance personnel.  You will also work closely with nationally and regionally based policy personnel from Wing and engage with regulators for new approval and various engagements.  Your primary function is to ensure that Wing is operationally able to provide its commercial drone delivery service in Finland. 

What you’ll do:

  • Approve schedule for flight operations staff (Pilot-in-Command (PIC) and Ground Support (GSO)) in Finland
  • Ensure Finland flight operations staff are available, properly qualified, current, and proficient as specified in Wing operations manuals for Finland
  • Monitor performance of Flight Operations staff (PIC and GSO) in Finland
  • Function as a designated Check Pilot for initial, differences, and recurrent qualification as required for Wing flight operations staff in Finland
  • Make continuance and discontinuance decisions regarding daily flight operations for Wing operations in Finland
  • Act as the primary representative for Wing flight operations to the national aviation regulator (TRAFI) in Finland and to other airspace users in Finland
  • Set numbers and location of aircraft required and work with Fleet Support to ensure sufficient quantity of aircraft are available for commercial delivery operations in Finland
  • Work with HQ operations and engineering staff to resolve immediate term impediments to safe and effective operations in the region
  • Participate in operational development with other Wing HQ staff
  • Maintain Wing Flight Operations manuals for Finland
  • Propose procedural changes or additions and ensure proper review and documentation through manual changes
  • Obtain and maintain Wing pilot-in-command qualification and periodically fulfill the PIC role for commercial delivery operations

What You’ll Need:  (Basic, non-negotiable qualifications that a candidate must, at a minimum, have to be considered for the role) 

  • Extensive knowledge of existing aviation-related regulations concerning RPAS operations
  • At least two or more years practical experience of working directly with Finnish Transport Safety Agency Aviation Entities (Safety, Air Traffic)
  • Two or more years experience with commercial aviation (on-board crew or remotely crewed) operations in a training or line environment
  • At least two years of experience participating in complex safety-critical operations in a field, industrial, or aviation setting involving three people or more
  • A minimum of 100 hours of logged time as aircrew in any type or role.  (onboard or remote crew)
  • A minimum of 240 hours of duty time as Pilot-in-Command for BVLOS drone operations
  • A minimum of 10 hours or 100 flights of actual sUAS flight time in BVLOS drone operations
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English
  • Ability to work independently and in teams while still maintaining rigorous attention to detail
  • Able to maintain attention to detail for extended periods in a monitoring role  
  • No medical condition which would prevent ability to function as a Wing PIC
  • This position is subject to Wing’s Drug and Alcohol testing policy in accordance with Wing’s operating procedures

  • Willingness to travel occasionally  to complete initial and periodic training
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support Wing regulatory and public policy engagement in Finland and elsewhere in the EU
  • Experience with business or operational data analysis or reporting tools (spreadsheets, SAP, etc)
