Woman dies after police give chase following drone sighting

The Guardian Newspaper in the UK is reporting that a woman in her twenties has died in the vicinity of Wandsworth Prison. She was a passenger in a vehicle fleeing from police officers investigating a drone sighting.

The driver is in critical condition in hospital.

This may just be a coincidence, as yet no reports of a recovered drone.

Instances of drone smuggling are on the increase, it’s an almost-trivial task for systems available off the shelf. The risk is certainly worth the reward. Not for this young couple, though.

A very simple defense would be the one we used against seagulls over the sewerage farm at RAF Chivenor, 30 years ago. Fishing line crisscrossing open areas, almost impossible to see but great for snaring flying things.

A net would do just the same.
