General Cherry Unveils ‘Sweetheart’: An Ultra-Affordable, Hand-Launched Drone for Deep Reconnaissance

Ukrainian defense-tech company General Cherry has introduced the latest addition to its fixed-wing UAV lineup: Sweetheart, a reconnaissance drone built for operations deep in enemy-held territory.

The new UAV extends the company’s fixed-wing ecosystem and was developed in close collaboration with combat units, who shaped the technical requirements directly.

According to the company, Sweetheart is built for the realities of the modern battlefield — mobile, autonomous, resistant to electronic warfare, and affordable.

“Modern war requires mass-scale technological solutions. Our goal was to build a reconnaissance aircraft that’s affordable, simple to operate, and still capable of complex missions deep behind enemy lines. That’s Sweetheart,” said Yaroslav Hryshyn, founder of General Cherry.

One of the drone’s key advantages is that it needs no extra launch equipment. Sweetheart takes off with a simple hand throw — no catapult, no specialized launch system required.

The company says the UAV weighs just 4 kg with a 1.7 m wingspan, can stay airborne for up to three hours, and operate at ranges of up to 150 km.

Sweetheart is equipped with digital video transmission, a controllable zoom camera, and a laser rangefinder. The developers placed particular emphasis on protecting the communication systems from enemy jamming.

Another standout feature is its acoustic stealth: from an altitude of 50-70 meters, the drone is nearly inaudible from the ground, making it harder for the enemy to detect.

The company is also betting on affordability. The estimated cost of a single unit will be about 6 times lower than most existing reconnaissance aircraft in its class. The developers believe this approach changes the very philosophy of how reconnaissance UAVs are used on the battlefield.

“At this price point, soldiers won’t be afraid to lose an aircraft — and in some cases, they’ll be able to deliberately send it on a one-way mission to get critical intelligence,” explains Yaroslav Hryshyn.

Sweetheart is currently undergoing active combat trials with Ukrainian military units. The company expects serial deliveries to begin this fall.
