Kraus Hamdani K1000ULE recharges without landing
For the first time in history, an aircraft has received laser energy in flight and recharged its batteries without landing.
The K1000ULE has successfully demonstrated laser power beaming technology, converting directed energy transmitted through free space into usable electrical power on board the aircraft. A ground-based system transmits energy via laser; the K1000ULE receives it in flight and converts it directly into electrical power to recharge and continue operations seamlessly.
This breakthrough fundamentally changes the equation for unmanned systems. Traditionally, endurance has always been finite, as aircraft must eventually land, refuel or recharge. With laser energy transmission, that limitation begins to disappear. We are entering what we call “Neverland”: a new operational paradigm where the K1000ULE no longer needs to land to sustain any mission.
The implications for the warfighter and homeland security are profound. For border patrol, this enables truly persistent overwatch and continuous ISR coverage over vast and remote regions without gaps caused by rotation or recovery cycles. For forward operating base security, the K1000ULE can maintain 24/7 airborne presence without the constraints of tethered systems, while still retaining full manoeuvrability to reposition, investigate threats or extend coverage beyond a fixed point. It combines the persistence of a tethered system with the freedom of an untethered aircraft.
Operationally, this also introduces a new level of resilience and flexibility. The K1000ULE can remain on station indefinitely while maintaining the ability to depart the energy beam, execute mission tasks and return to recharge—all without ever touching the ground. This reduces the logistical burden, minimises downtime and ensures continuous availability in environments where persistence is critical.
The K1000ULE was designed to push the boundaries of endurance. With laser power beaming, we are no longer just extending endurance; we are redefining it.
Welcome to Neverland.
