Zero Point – UAS Operator and Maintainer

Operating, maintaining, repairing, and modifying a fleet of various aircraft and their sub-systems, to include flight controllers, communications systems, software, and ground support equipment. This includes designing, fabricating, and testing hardware components as well as modifying software components to integrate various types of instrumentation to facilitate testing of payloads and equipment configurations. This position operates out of the Zero Point office in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform maintenance, disassembly, rework, repair, replacement, reassembly or adjustment of aircraft and subsystems in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform launch and recovery including preflight inspections, operational checks, installation of payloads (cameras, datalinks, and test instrumentation), and postflight inspections.
  • Design and prototype mechanisms or other modifications for integrating test instrumentation and other payloads onto aircraft that includes appropriate documentation to support air worthiness reviews.
  • Maintain applicable required records, manuals, and inspection forms to include deficiency reports, maintenance analysis documents, configuration data changes, and other equipment records.
  • Interpret technical documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, and software interfaces to determine the optimum approach for integrating payloads and other components onto aircraft.
  • Diagnose and address problems with UAS aircraft and/or any associated UAS hardware/software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field and a minimum of two years of UAS work experience. Alternatively, a high school diploma with formal UAS training and more than four years’ of UAS work experience.
  • Documented work history operating and maintaining unmanned aircraft, flight controllers, power systems, sensors, navigation, communications, and radio-controlled solutions.
  • Current FAA UAS Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate with small UAS rating.
  • Current or eligible for a TOP SECRET clearance with SCI access.
  • Strong technology background and knowledge of troubleshooting techniques to include analytical and research skills for investigating problem solutions.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience with hand tools, soldering, and standard lab test equipment.
  • Experience integrating electrical and mechanical systems with microprocessors, motors, sensors, and actuators.
  • Documented training and operational proficiency of all topics included in BUQ I as defined in the most recent version of CJCSI 3255.01 Change 1, Joint Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unmanned Aircraft Systems Minimum Training Standards
  • Experience with prototype fabrication, including 3D printing and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machining.
  • SolidWorks expertise or similar Computer Aided Drafting experience.
  • Expertise in Mission Planner or an equivalent UAS Ground Station software
  • Additional operator certifications and/or type ratings applicable to rotary wing or fixed wing UAS, including but not limited to those granted by the DoD, FAA, or manufacturer.
  • Documented fixed-wing training to include the “Navigation” category of BUQ Level II and III as well as the “Instrument” category of BUQ Level III.
  • Experience with Python programming language
  • Experience with Linux, Windows, and Android based operating systems for desktop and mobile devices.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment focusing on meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability of lifting to a height of 40” and, without assistance, carrying equipment weighing up to 100 pounds, a distance of up to 50 feet

WORKING ENVIRONMENT 

  • Work will be performed in standard office environments, classrooms, workshops and in various outdoor field conditions both CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Travel will be very frequent, typically less than one week duration per trip, both domestically and internationally.
