what3words joins Drone Logistics Ecosystem

LONDON, UK- Drone Logistics Ecosystem has announced today that an innovative location technology company, what3words, is joining their network or members working to make drone deliveries a reality. Drone Logistics Ecosystem (DLE) is a free, global multidisciplinary “quadruple helix” network, that works together to stimulate innovations, collaborations, and standardisations in the drone logistics industry.

What3words is revolutionizing the way we communicate location. It has divided the world into 57 trillion 3m x 3m squares and has given each square a unique combination of three words: a what3words address. For example, ///pool.follow.lofts takes you to a precise 3-metre square in an idyllic spot in the middle of Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay. Businesses and individuals can use the system to find, share and navigate to precise locations using three simple words. The system is available in 51 languages, including Tamil, Malay, English and Mandarin Chinese.

The aim of the Drone Logistics Ecosystem is to bring together stakeholders in the drone logistics industry under one roof to support the commercialisation and marketing of products of Drone Logistics members. Since the industry at its inception, most of the companies are early-stage start-ups with limited access to funding, manpower and expertise, making us an ideal platform for companies to lend their expertise for joint development of products, consulting, or simply as sub-contractors, or for any other format of cross-disciplinary/border collaboration.

Florian Reinhardt, Senior Partnerships Lead at what3words, said “what3words innovative location technology is set to play a pivotal role in facilitating the communication of locations between consumers and drones. We’re excited to be joining DLE to collaborate with members on cutting edge consumer-facing trials, and to cross-pollinate ideas to provide innovative ways of making drone deliveries a reality”.
