AMA has been after a mandated membership since sometime in 2009. With an annual budget in the tens of millions, a large membership, and friends of friends in high places ran through a comedy of errors.  This is probably the hardest fail to see as they were tipped off to the content of the reauthorization probably as far back a year ago. I’d ask the lobby firm for my money back and the FAA letter is just poor leadership.

Some say it would be almost impossible to shed numbers like that in an industry purported to be worth some 82 billion USD (your own associations forecast), but the board is just going to ride it out as they believe they (as well as the industry) can still come in either on TOP or in for the Big Wynne!

As the story goes, the FAA invited Greg to participate on behalf of Small UAV coalition unbeknownst to the coalition. (Awkward) However, Airmap needs mandated customers to round out part of the business plan.  Some local municipal laws in the App as part of a yearly contract would just be gravy Dianne.

A few points I would like to add, AMA tried to enter in a dissenting opinion into the record that none of these people supported.  The big win for the hobbyist was the 250 grams based on conjecture and irrelevant shrapnel from explosions science and the fee being $5. Wow! All of that indignation aside this catastrophe was sold to the industry as the FAA’s fix for years of inaction and lackluster enforcement. Now we have the reauthorization to fix the same problems the FAA wouldn’t enforce before.

Conclusion –

The FAA picks unqualified people that they can easily give the snow job. Burying the dysfunction and moving targets is the only way you can keep up the platitudes “it’s all about safety” and “we need data” etc. ad nauseam alive. Well, that and the promise of some mandated association members or customers. Besides that, it is all smoke and mirrors that you will actually be paying for here soon.
