From honeybees to unmanned aircraft, GLCS covers it all
LANSING, MI — The inaugural Great Lakes Crop Summit has something for everyone on the farm, from crop production and management to cutting-edge topics.
“The concurrent session format provides a perfect opportunity to bring your farm partners or family members so you don’t miss anything,” said Natalie Rector, Research Coordinator for the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan.
Since one day just isn’t enough, plan on attending both days of the Summit, to be held January 22 and 23, 2014 at FireKeepers Casino and Hotel in Battle Creek, MI.
Topics over the day and a half Summit will include corn, wheat and soybean production and plant protection as well as topics ranging from row spacing to rotations to record keeping. Also included will be topics you are hearing about but will now have a chance to talk about with expert speakers.
Gretchen West, Executive Vice President for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, will talk about the current and future use of unmanned aerial vehicles and robots in agriculture.
Experts from Michigan State University and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will provide a greater understanding of bee pollinators and colony collapse disorder as well as new EPA labeling for farms.

Climate change and the uniquely precious water resources the Great Lakes Region holds will be brought to life by Dr. Jeff Andresen, Steve Miller and Lyndon Kelley, who bring years of experience on the subjects from MSU.
Join your neighbors from around the Midwest at the Summit, which will feature more than 20 different speakers and topics for all corn, soybean and wheat producers, as well as an exhibitor trade show.
Other sessions will include discussions on control and prevention of wheat and soybean diseases, rotation effects, nitrogen management, seed quality and seeding rates.

The sessions begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 and conclude on Thursday, Jan. 23 at noon. Second farm and family registrants are $100.
