Pre-Experience the future with Autonomous Driving Simulation

The market for next-generation mobility is rapidly expanding, and simulation technology that enables safe and cost-effective testing of unmanned vehicles is gaining attention as a result. MORAI is a prominent simulation provider that specializes in verifying the safety and reliability of autonomous driving and unmanned vehicles. Founded in 2018 by autonomous driving researchers from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), it is currently at the forefront of the domestic autonomous driving simulation field.

Why autonomous driving simulation is important? To ensure the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles, an infinite amount of driving distance is required, which is impossible to achieve on real roads. Autonomous vehicles need to be capable of adapting to all road situations, regardless of weather, environment, or other factors. Testing all of these situations on real roads is impractical due to countless variables such as lighting, weather, road geometry, and sudden obstacles like merging vehicles or wildlife that are difficult to account for. Moreover, simulating accident situations repeatedly is challenging. To test autonomous driving failures, driving at high speeds in complex traffic situations is necessary, which can be unsafe and challenging to reproduce repeatedly. Therefore, simulation technology is gaining attention.

MORAI’s autonomous driving simulation platform generates a mirror world that replicates real-life road conditions, providing the capability to gather an immense amount of driving data that is beyond what’s feasible in real-world trials. Moreover, it facilitates repetitive testing of accident situations that happen on actual roads. The platform delivers a virtual environment that features high-fidelity simulation, including sensors, vehicle models, and situations that are close to reality. Even challenging scenarios to validate on real roads, like pedestrian collision hazards, can be tested tens of thousands of times, ensuring dependable and safe validation.

MORAI’s simulation platform provides a reliable and safe verification process for sensors, vehicle models, and scenario testing by enabling the accumulation of driving distance and repetition of accident scenarios. In addition, the platform boasts high-precision digital twin construction technology based on precise map data, resulting in a simulation environment with a remarkable 10cm accuracy level. MORAI’s automated digital-twin generation technology based on precise map data is another strong point. It boasts 95% automation and has created a digital twin simulation environment using actual high-precision map data, achieving a precision level of 10cm.

More than 100 companies, including Hyundai, Hyundai Mobis, and Naver Labs, rely on MORAI’s simulation platform for autonomous driving system verification. MORAI is expanding the application of its simulation platform to the entire unmanned mobility industry, including UAM, unmanned robots, and unmanned ships. At the international electronics exhibition, CES held in Las Vegas in January, MORAI participated for the fourth consecutive year and introduced the latest simulation technology, which garnered attention from many domestic and foreign companies and organizations.

MORAI strives to expedite the implementation of future technologies such as autonomous and flying cars through simulations, with the motto “Pre-experience the Future,” in order to enhance human convenience. To accomplish this, MORAI is committed to advancing its technology and intensifying collaborations with relevant companies to accelerate the commercialization of autonomous driving.
