We are looking for up to four individuals to join our Innovation team to support the delivery of the CAA’s response to new technologies. The innovation landscape is changing quickly and will enable the UK to build, use and export new, greener ways of flying through advances in electric and autonomous flight technology. The Role 

Your role will be to lead policy formation in response to demand driven by new technologies. You’ll play an important part in the UK leading a new revolution in aviation by bringing together technologies in electrification, digital and autonomy to build new modes of air travel and capability. 

Core Accountabilities will include: 

  • Focus and advise stakeholders (internal and external) in driving solutions 
  • Work closely with other innovation functions to share learning and develop new regulatory frameworks 
  • Undertake research to understand the relationship between existing regulation and emerging technologies and design appropriate responses 
  • Provide expert advice and mentorship on regulatory expectations 
  • Develop road maps for how technologies are trialled and show cased through test and trials to form part of the aviation ecosystem 
  • Contribute to creating regulatory principles, standard scenarios and templates that can be reapplied in core regulatory areas 
  • Apply functional knowledge to complex problems arising from emerging technologies 
  • Capture intelligence to formulate important insights and recommendations 

 
About You 

You’ll need good regulatory and policy understanding and knowledge, ideally within aviation or tech, but this is not crucial. 

Experience of policy formulation particularly researching and drafting new regulations, policies, frameworks and instruments (including legislation) to respond to new trends and challenges will be required. 

Additional skills/experience: 

  • Have a risk-based and principles-led approach 
  • Ability to plan and prioritise sophisticated deliveries across multiple partners 
  • Experience in providing innovative solutions to meet challenges of regulatory compliance 
  • Ability to understand challenges that are being developed in a highly regulated environment 
  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach with evidence of working in highly changing environments 
  • Proven experience of convening and leading multi-stakeholder discussions on complex technical topics

Additional Information
 

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken.
