UAV Navigation Autopilots Are Now Compatible with Ainstein US-D1 Radar Altimeter

● UAV Navigation includes Ainstein in their subsystems partners’ portfolio.
● The radar altimeter from the American manufacturer is now plug&play with the Spanish autopilots.

Madrid, June, 2021 – Altimeters are a key part of the last phases of the flight profile. These devices are designed to calculate the height of an aircraft above the surface directly below it.

By using radar altimeter, it creates accuracy and provides robustness that other laser altimeters do not have. For that reason, the altimeters are devices that are routinely integrated for UAS manufacturers with UAV Navigation’s GNC solutions.

Unlike other flight control systems, UAV Navigation’s autopilots can execute precise and standard landing on runways and that is because of the advanced logic that incorporates. This means that landings can be achieved without using vulnerable and expensive DGPS/RTK systems.

Ainstein is an experienced radar altimeter manufacturer with a range of products geared towards unmanned aircraft. The US-D1 is a compact and robust design that enables their use in demanding environments, enabling drones to operate in every condition and location.

The Ainstein system offers a combination of compacted enclosure and a considerably light range that allows installation in a wide number of platforms.

The communication between the autopilot and the device is conducted via CAN port so a specific driver within the flight control computer software was implemented. This was solved because of the extended experience that UAV Navigation has in the integration of similar subsystems and peripherals.

UAV Navigation is always seeking to widen the family of peripherals to make them compatible with our flight control solutions. The integration of the subsystems makes the integration of all the components faster because of its plug&play capability and it also helps the customers in the selection of the different peripherals in their platforms.

About UAV Navigation

UAV Navigation is a private-owned company that has specialized in the design of guidance, navigation, and control solutions for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) since 2004.

UAV Navigation’s flight control solutions are used by a variety of Tier 1 aerospace manufacturers in a wide range of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) – also known as Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). These include high-performance tactical unmanned planes, aerial targets, mini-UAVs, and helicopters.

The cornerstone of the Company’s success is a comprehensive, in-house capability to develop Attitude & Heading Reference Systems (AHRS), flight control algorithms, and to fuse the data provided by multiple sensors (GNSS, airspeed, magnetometers, gyroscopes, accelerometers, etc).

The autopilots are characterized by their reliability and robustness, being used in all kinds of platforms and weather conditions.

About the US-D1:

Ainstein’s UAV Standard Radar Altimeter US-D1 is the most compact radar altimeter for UAVs on the market. Designed to fit in the palm of your hands in order to provide greater flexibility with precious onboard real estate and payload. The Standard Radar Altimeter US-D1 works in a multitude of environments including mountainous terrain, tree canopies, sand, and water. The US-D1 protects your expensive UAV electronics from getting coated in mist from agricultural spraying, covered in dust during takeoffs and landings, or from getting wet from choppy water. Ainstein believes drone performance shouldn’t suffer because of real-world operating conditions. Interested in learning more about the US-D1? Check out the datasheet.
