Sky for sale, get your pay gateway here

I am thinking that whoever has the keys to the Airmap Twitter account might be handing them in.

The model aircraft community has noticed a recent entry mentioning the monetisation of airspace. There is now a call to #boycottairmap

There can be no doubt that both LAANC and Remote ID were basic requirements when seeking compensation from all aircraft, be they private models flown VLOS or commercial BVLOS.

LAANC and RID do nothing for safety. They solve no problem that exists.

The call to boycott the Airmap app will be a little hollow as their data is used by various entities Microsoft Ventures, Honeywell and U-Space all hanging around.

Here are some of the apps that use Airmap https://www.airmap.com/solution-partners/

The internet has a long memory.

In the UK Ian (FOIA man) Hudson has a handy dandy redacted missive from NATS (National Air Traffic Service) showing that Airmap was pushing in the UK.

One would hope that any data on UK flights would stay in the UK and never be sold.

But wait, maybe that is not happening in Japan.

Perhaps it is time to not boycott Airmap but ask and FOIA your local regulators for accurate honest information about their airspace intentions.

Some are just panicking and are out of their depth. If a man or woman in a nice suit comes along with an instant solution to all the fear-fueled conspiracies of the CUAS and AAM industries. Ones that will make the boss money, they will grab that solution.

People selling apps to do other bits for your commercial or private drone flights also need to be honest, if an Airmap API puffs out their piece easily are they really doing the right thing? Your data could be sold or used to sell stuff to you.

Already people are responding with, but LAANC apps are free, they have to get their money back somehow and per flight is fair. That is a poor argument, your data is the product.

This is how we are getting where we are, greed and ignorance are creating gaps for sharks.

For those with a long memory, I love that the Airmap Crunchbase URL ends in noflyzone
