Geospatial Data is a Foundation to Drive Innovation for Autonomous Air and Ground Vehicles

Geospatial data is driving new advanced mobility and transportation solutions for cargo and people, unleashing machine learning and artificial intelligence as transportation breaks into the third dimension.

Lifescale Analytics, a data science and analytics firm headquartered in Roseville, Minn., joined the Advanced Mobility Collective in its mission to help accelerate the innovative use of autonomous air and ground vehicles. The Advanced Mobility Collective is a community for collaboration to bring new mobility services to life, including autonomous air and ground vehicles. The Collective is a nonprofit global community of business, technology, government and research partners. 

Innovation is being driven by the convergence of 5G wireless connectivity and massive data from the Internet of Things merged with connected air and ground vehicles evolving into autonomous smart machines. “The evolution of advanced mobility is part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution that will transform every aspect of the economy in ways similar to the unleashing of the Internet in the 1990s,” said Advanced Mobility Collective Executive Director Todd Spain.

“Lifescale Analytics is a leader in geospatial information that integrates geographic location with data, shaping every aspect of advanced mobility.”

5G networks will enable Internet-connected devices and sensors, including autonomous air and ground vehicles, to exchange information more than 100 times more rapidly than today’s networks. New capabilities, called network slicing, will enable better management of data. Combining the next generation wireless infrastructure with ubiquitous smartphones, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, robotics and cloud computing will unlock and unleash new possibilities including advanced mobility services with connected and autonomous vehicles in the air and on the ground.

Her 23 years of IT experience includes both commercial corporations and public sector agencies  with numerous large infrastructure projects with vendors including Microsoft, ForeScout, Oracle and AT&T. The company is a SBA certified woman owned small business.

“The rapid exchange of information will unleash real-time data gathering, analysis, prediction and data-driven decisions,” said Lifescale Analytics Director of Geospatial Solutions Brent Slone, who leads the firm’s entrepreneurial engagement for the spatial intelligence division. “We are excited to collaborate with members of The Collective helping evolve many industries from healthcare and pharmaceutical  development to agriculture, energy, transportation,  and public services.”

New mobility services including unmanned aerial systems and urban air mobility systems (UAM) are expected to revolutionize the transportation of people and goods with highly automated and autonomous cargo and passenger transportation services. Emerging services range from medical package and food delivery to transportation, including airport shuttles, air taxi and air ambulances with electronic vertical takeoff and landing drones (eVTOLs), autonomous vehicles and robotic transportation systems in smart cities. 

Bringing advanced mobility services to communities requires collaboration among technology providers, municipalities, researchers, regulators and funding sources. The ecosystem is evolving and collaboration is essential.
