DJI Roundtable Showcases Drones Fighting Wildfires
DJI, the world leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, will host a virtual roundtable Monday, Dec. 14 featuring three firefighting experts to discuss how drones have helped combat wildfires, and what challenges have held back their wider adoption.
This year stands as the worst year for wildfires on record in California and across much of the western United States. Five of the six largest fires in California history happened this year, and experts estimate more than 8.5 million acres have burned so far due to decades of forest mismanagement and a lack of prescribed burns.
Battling these blazes has become an intense concern for communities across the West. Drones have proven themselves in helping prevent and manage wildfires, yet political wrangling has significantly curtailed use of drone technology. This panel will look at how drones have aided firefighters and first responders as well as challenges preventing broader adoption.
