UAS Partnership – Boynton Aerospace Science Academy

On September 10th, 2020, BASA collaborated with VolAero Drones of Miami and Easy Aerial of New York to provide our students a demo of Easy Aerial’s advanced UAS. Students received technical operations information from Senior Drone Engineer, Mr. Kalaitzidis, and interacted with Mr. Sanders from VolAero Drones- the company that provided UAS security to Super Bowl LIV (in Miami).

The demonstration included information regarding the UAS’s hardware specs and software capabilities, as our students prepare for a remote flight mission in New York City. Students enrolled in AS 120 (Principles of Aeronautical Science) undertook a thorough review of the METARs near the launch sight and eventually made the difficult “no go” decision to protect property and mitigate risk. In doing so, they prepared to make difficult real-word decisions that take into consideration: UAS’s operational limitations, environmental factors, safety precautions, and customer risk management.

The BASA program thanks its industry partners for helping it provide a world-class aviation education to its students. BASA is a partnership between Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the Palm Beach School District.
