Veronte CEX

Veronte CEX

Veronte CEX stands as a powerful peripheral to ease the reduction of wire in autonomous vehicles at the time it permits to increase the number of devices in the system. With its easy integration, Veronte CEX becomes a quick solution for increasing connectivity capacity and allowing wiring optimization, especially in large systems. It makes possible to relocate and to group sensors, actuators, payloads, motor controllers… enhancing the I/O connectivity in the Veronte Autopilot.

Wiring Optimization

It is especially in large vehicles, where wire optimization plays a critical role in permitting a significant weight reduction. This upgrade is achieved because since we are using only 2 or 3 cables depending on the system schema, we also reduce the cable length and therefore we can place all the devices in the right place without increasing the weight. Another advantage of using Veronte CEX is the robustness of the CAN Bus connection since it is highly resistant to electromagnetic interferences and allows the installation of long cables without signal loss. Furthermore, it includes redundant CAN bus isolation, making it fail-operational even in the case of a CAN bus line break.

Enhanced I/O

With the use of Veronte CEX, the data capacity for input and output in Veronte Autopilots is highly increased. The advanced design makes possible to control several peripherals and components  (PWM, UART, Digital Output, I2C, Analog Inputs…) via CAN Bus. It can be used for both, expanding the I/O capability in the autopilot Veronte, or for controlling peripherals with a robust and stable communications protocol. In case it is needed, we can install several CEX boards in the same network to increase the number of I/O ports or simply because of system architecture needs.

Redundant CAN Bus

Safety is essential and a critical factor in the autonomous vehicle industry, especially when focusing on a UAV certification process. Redundancy is basic for any system that needs to pass demanding safety levels. It ensures the correct operation of the components in all situations, remaining fail-operational even in case of a CAN Bus line failure. The redundant CAN Bus ports are galvanically isolated to avoid the propagation no wished electrical currents in the system. With this, if one of the lines becomes affected by an electrical problem in the system, the other CAN Bus line will still remain operative.

Applications

In aviation, a field where weight is so important in the design of any aircraft, struggling with wiring is one of the most common issues faced during the vehicle design phase. With the use of Veronte CEX, not only this problem is highly reduced, but a bunch of opportunities for different sensors and payload arises:

  • Advanced control of actuators and peripherals becomes feasible, being possible to condensate the connection of control, feedback, sensors… in a single board..
  • Devices can be installed at long distances from the autopilot with no signal degradation thanks to the robustness of the CAN Bus.
  • By adding more I/O interfaces, a more complex payload control can be achieved, adding enhanced connectivity.
