africanDRONE Project Manager: Nairobi

africanDRONE (aD) is seeking a part-time (4 half-days per week) Project Manager in Nairobi, Kenya to assist the ExCo Fellow with project related tasks, but also independently grow the organisation. The Project Manager will be working directing with the ExCo Fellow but will be reporting into the COO in Cape Town.

aD is incubated and supported by Code for Africa, and has a presence in Cape Town, Tanzania and Kenya, with members from across the continent. aD is developing an on-the-ground presence in Kenya to facilitate the growth of the organisation in East Africa. aD wants to be the primary catalyst and change agent in the UAV-for-good space in Africa.

The East African hub will be managed by the aD ExCo Regional Fellow, whose focus will be on identifying strategic organisations, institutions, and individuals for affiliation/partnership, and then spearheading recruitment. Institutional partners are what will help aD build its member services, create credibility amongst funders / commercial operators, and underpin any advocacy/lobbying.

The Project Manager will assist the ExCo Fellow in managing the Kenya office and its projects, in particular drive regional network development by identifying and recruiting potential members, as well as identifying and building relationships with institutional partners.

The project will run for six months initially, with an option to renew.

Who You Are

You have experience managing projects. You’re passionate about innovative systems, processes, and productivity hacks and comfortable working with diverse teams. You are a self-starter who does independent research, takes initiative and goes above and beyond to deliver results. You might already be managing projects in the civic tech space, which would be an advantage. Experience and skill in project management and communication tools such as Slack, Trello and Google products is essential. Experience in social media curation and management is highly advantageous, as is the ability to network and communicate with a variety of people, from civic leaders at policy-making level through to drone pilot members from across the continent.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement standard operational processes;
  • Manage financial and other operational records;
  • Implement, monitor and report on projects
  • Donor, grantee and stakeholder liaison;
  • Recruit and vet new members across East African countries;
  • Manage membership records and member engagement;
  • Manage logistics for meetups;
  • Support new business development;
  • Assist with managing social media.

What You’ve Got

  • Project management skills with a focus on keeping to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, especially for project status reporting
  • Organised with a high degree of attention to detail, especially related to budgets and expenses
  • Ability to take the initiative and follow through to ensure prompt resolution of issues
  • Proficiency in Google Suite including Google Docs, Sheets and Slides
  • Proficiency in Trello
  • Proficiency in social media management, analytics and content creation
  • Familiarity with Slack, Skype and other team communication platforms

Extra Points If…

  • You’ve got a degree/project management certification
  • You have 1+ years work experience
  • You have knowledge or experience in the drone industry and space
