Inmarsat and Cobham launch a UAV programme around resilient satcom

In partnership with Cobham and Starburst, Inmarsat’s UAV Pop-up lab is an initiative to demonstrate the value of resilient satellite communications in the unmanned aerial vehicle sector, with a focus on beyond line of sight (BLOS) and remote operation connectivity on platforms above 5 kilogrammes in payload mass.

Five companies will be selected to integrate the Cobham AVIATOR UAV 200 satellite terminal into their UAV platform and trial a use case with a live customer(s). Both the terminal and airtime will be provided during the programme, along with technical support. Full training will be given at the UAV Pop-up lab launch in February 2019 at Inmarsat’s London HQ.

The programme will conclude with a large-scale demo event in May (Inmarsat’s London HQ) for stakeholders from across the world, including end-users, regulators and institutions. Pop-up lab participants will have the opportunity to present their use case trials, take part in roundtables, and showcase their UAVs to potential customers.

Find out more about how you can become one of the pioneers shaping UAV satcom technologies and commercial opportunities in the Pop-up lab brochure.

Why should you participate?

  1. Unique opportunity to innovate by trialling the Inmarsat/Cobham AVIATOR UAV 200 product in a commercially live environment, without buying a terminal.
  2. Exposure to international customers within need of satcom enabled UAV services
  3. Be one of the pioneers shaping UAV satcom technologies and commercial cases by working with Inmarsat and Cobham development teams.

How to apply

Respond to the Programme RFP by 30 November 2018. RFP details can be found here. All applications should be sent to our programme partner Starburst.
