NCDOT to Hold Public Meeting in Raleigh for UAS Integration Pilot Program

RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting in Raleigh Aug. 30 to provide information about its program to test the use of commercial drones for the delivery of medical supplies.

The NCDOT was selected in May as one of only 10 participants in the Federal Aviation Administration’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS, or ‘drones’) Integration Pilot Program. The primary focus of NCDOT’s proposal is working with global drone delivery companies to set up a network of medical distribution centers that can use drones to make medical deliveries. The initiative will also test the use of drones for on-demand food delivery.

The meeting will be from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Wake Tech Community College Perry Health Sciences Campus,2901 Holston Lane, Raleigh. Interested people may attend at any time during the meeting hours. The meeting will not include a formal presentation.

At the meeting, there will be information and activity stations as well as project team members who will be available to answer questions and receive feedback. All comments will be taken into consideration as the program progresses. The opportunity to submit written comments will be provided at the meeting or can be done by phone, email, online or regular mail no later than Sept. 29.
