PropellerAero release white paper – Selecting The Right Drone

PropellerAero release white paper – Selecting The Right Drone

Decisions decisions, which drone should I buy? Sydney-based cloud GIS service provider, PropellerAero, have released the first of a new series of white papers helping you choose.

A stand out sensible line for me is this one:

“The type of airspace your site sits within will determine whether you can purchase a drone yourself or will need to engage a certified drone operator instead.”

Making a decision to outsource image collection or do it yourself is an important decision and often overlooked. Operating a fleet of drones collecting terabytes of data at a low perceived cost to your business is enticing. The reality of legal compliance is often ignored.

I am having less and less sympathy for people that buy RPAS and start complaining that they cannot operate them easily in the heart of whichever city they live.

If you are thinking about bringing drones into your business, look at the controlled airspace around you. Skyvector is a good starting point https://skyvector.com/.

Should the airspace map make no sense at all to you, go to your nearest airfield and buy an instructor lunch and ask him to talk you through the airspace in your town.

This is a great whitepaper and free to boot. If it stops and makes you think it could save you some money and time.
