Kittyhawk Launches Live Drone Flight Tracking, Powered By AirMap

Kittyhawk, the drone fleet management company, is proud to announce the 5.0 release of their industry-leading iOS drone management software. Today, after working closely with Santa Monica’s AirMap, Kittyhawk is the first app developer using the AirMap platform to see and receive alerts about live air traffic without leaving the app. In addition, Kittyhawk and AirMap make it easy for an operator to send “digital notice” about their operations to interested parties like other sUAS operators and more than 150 participating airports.

Kittyhawk is solving the growing demand for an application that helps manage the logistics of owning, operating and managing a fleet of drones and pilots. The new features in 5.0 allow for more thorough pre-flight planning and relevant information during a flight — a first for Kittyhawk. All of this helps in making sure drone pilots can operate their aircraft as safely as possible in ever more complex conditions.

“Kittyhawk had previously stayed away from providing in-flight intelligence, but the AirMap platform presented the right opportunity for us to work with another industry leader on creating an exceptionally useful feature,” said Kittyhawk Chief Pilot Joshua Ziering.

“We’re thrilled that Kittyhawk users now have access to live traffic alerts and can provide digital notice of their flights to airports and other airspace stakeholders,” said AirMap CEO Ben Marcus. “Kittyhawk already delivers incredible value to drone operators before and after they fly – and now, Kittyhawk makes in-flight situational awareness effortless for their users.”

“We wanted to make sure that if we added this, we added it with the quality and care that our users demand. AirMap’s technology and approach appealed to us practically and stylistically.” adds Kittyhawk CEO Jon Hegranes.

Kittyhawk is rapidly becoming the standard fleet management choice for all drone pilots, including the estimated 600,000 commercial drones coming online this year alone. New regulations for commercial operators are making intelligent drone management more and more critical for every flight. With this new feature set Kittyhawk is helping both manned and unmanned operators create a culture of safety to keep the National Airspace useable for everyone.

Kittyhawk is free for the hobbyist or casual user. It also offers premium subscriptions for more serious individuals or organizations that need team features and enterprise-grade data and service.

The new application comes with a plethora of new features and is available Monday morning in the app store.
