Oh Mavic where art thou – Casey lost his DJI Mavic Pro

Two big breaking news stories coming out of America as I wake up this morning. One political and one drone.

Casey Niestat has lost his Mavic, he flew it BVLOS and he lost his C2 link. I’m putting it in grown up terms because that is how these incidents should be seen.

He plainly does not see the conflict of flying in by helicopter and then operating his Mavic in the very same heli routes.

I like your videos Casey, you are a very talented filmmaker indeed. But please start thinking about safety and spreading a safer message. (He will not be reading this)

Can anyone tell me just what would be required of a Part 107 flyer to operate in that part of New York?

Already I am seeing folks calling fly away, it is not a fly away when you fly behind a building and lose your control link. If it stopped itself hitting anything on the way out by flying forward and using its cameras to dodge buildings that would be cool.

Wouldn’t it be amazeballs if the Mavic used its vision sensors to find the boat as it knew it was over water….
