Computer Vision & Infrastructure

Infrastructure Engineer

As the Infrastructure Engineer, you will be implementing, maintaining, and supporting hardware and software for our advanced content research and development group. Qualified candidates need to be motivated and able to operate in a highly dynamic environment. This position is located in Austin, TX and reports to the CTO

Responsibilities

  • Work with artists and engineers to support content development projects within the advanced content research and development group
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues
  • Support and maintain Linux workstations, including Linux troubleshooting and Linux system administration

Computer Vision, Sensors, & Algorithm Architect

We are looking for a highly interdisciplinary software/hardware system architect to lead the inter-disciplinary architecture and design of our mixed reality system: sensors (cameras, IMUs, etc.), embedded compute, and embedded algorithm stack. This position reports to the CTO.

Responsibilities

  • Drive system-level architecture of sensor/compute/algorithm stack by interfacing with the technical leads in sensors, computer vision, embedded software, electrical/computer engineering, UI/UX, and OS software
  • Hands-on leadership of interdisciplinary team of systems engineers with broad analysis and prototyping skills (hardware/software/algorithms)
  • Responsible for product sensor strategy
  • Responsible for specification of complex algorithm stack (SLAM, environment modeling, interactions, etc.)
  • Extend existing prototype and production systems to enhance feature set, empirically quantify performance, and empirically test viability of concepts
  • For proposed hardware/software features, use off the shelf electronics and sensors to prototype functional proof-of-concepts
  • Design experiments to verify architecture decisions, and statistically represent the outcomes
  • Drive derivation of product architecture requirements from prototype systems
  • Interface with game developers, UX designers, experience designers, etc. to convert use-cases into concrete engineering requirements for sensors, algorithm stack, etc.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to design validation and verification tests of the system requirements
  • Work within the broader systems engineering team to support organization-wide requirements elicitation, management, translation between disciplines and customers, and documentation

Qualifications

Required:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills

Computer Vision Researcher/Engineer

The candidate must have extensive experience in Computer Vision with specialization in at least one of the following areas:

  • Sensor Calibration: Design and implement algorithms for online and offline calibration of complex devices composed of several sensors, cameras, IMUs, depth sensors and imagers. Collaborate with other engineers on the design and deployment of a fully automatic robotics-aided calibration process targeted for factory production.
  • Dense Mapping: Design and implement advanced algorithms for reconstructing dense 3D models of large scale outdoor environments using depth sensors.
  • 3D Scene Understanding: Design and implement 3D scene segmentation algorithms based on depth, motion or texture data.

Qualifications

Expert knowledge in at least one area listed above:

  • Fluent in C/C++ (programming and debugging)
  • Experience working with OpenCV
  • Knowledge of parallel computing, OpenCL, GPGPU is a plus

Sensors & Computer Vision Engineer

UAVs need to sense and understand the world around them with tremendous precision and speed. You will bring computer vision expertise to bear in building a world class architecture for accomplishing multiple, difficult sensing tasks in parallel. Great ingenuity is required, as this must be done under tight power and size constraints. A wide variety of cameras, 3D sensors, inertial sensors and other components will be at your disposal, and you will conduct experiments, devise algorithms, and perform analysis to help design the best sensing system for our products. This is a critical role that provides the underpinnings for many core product features, and greatly impacts our product design and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype advanced computer vision algorithms for pose estimation, 3D modeling, object recognition, etc. that take advantage of novel sensor choices and configurations.
  • Work with advanced 3D (e.g. depth) sensing technologies, and enhance or tune them to push the boundaries of accuracy, completeness, noise level, and other key performance indicators.
  • Apply machine learning to key sensor enhancement and computer vision problems.
  • Interact with vendors and the academic community to understand the landscape of available and near-term sensor technologies, and provide guidance to potential partners.
  • Define metrics for sensor performance, and design robust, partially automated experiments to obtain quantitative data against these metrics on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop new cross-sensor functionality, and prototype new sensor use cases.
  • Participate in strategic discussions around sensor architecture, selection, and configuration, for products and prototypes, with teams across the company.
  • Document, organize, and disseminate information about sensor specifications, performance, alternate possibilities, and strategy.
