MetaVR Visuals and sUAS in Simulation Lab at Mohawk Valley Community College

MetaVR announces that starting this fall, Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) Utica, NY, campus will use MetaVR visuals and donated small Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in its new UAS simulation and training lab. Earlier this year, MVCC purchased 6 MetaVR Virtual Reality Scene Generator (VRSG) licenses and 6 Battlespace Simulations’ Modern Air Combat Environment (MACE) licenses for desktop pilot and sensor operator training stations in the new lab, which will be unveiled in the fall 2016 curriculum. As part of the software delivery, MetaVR has donated to MVCC a MetaVRC, the company’s portable UAS used for imagery collection. Students will use the SUAS for learning about long range mapping and autonomous missions.

Students will hone their operation and flight skills in the UAS simulation lab as part of MVCC’s brand new Small UAS (sUAS) Associates of Applied Science degree program. The lab consists of 5 student stations, an instructor station, and a 3D terrain server. The terrain server will run MetaVR 3D terrain, including CONUS++Northeast region. MVCC purchased all new hardware for the lab where students will learn mission planning and operations, and flight skills.

The imagery collection sUAS that MetaVR donated to MVCC was built by Swift Radioplanes for autonomous aerial surveying at low altitudes. The aircraft takes high-resolution still-frame images, which MetaVR then orthorectifies and uses to build sub-inch resolution 3D terrain for rendering in VRSG. In August Swift Radioplanes provided field training to two professors in the sUAS program on the SUAS.
