Stop! Don’t try and buy a Part 107 licence.

Stop! Don’t try and buy a Part 107 licence.

snakeoil and medicine shows

Its not even twenty four hours since the Part 107 announce from the FAA. Sandwiches from the buffet table have hardly had time to curl, Vol-au-vent are not yet collapsed.

News has reached us that already unscrupulous companies are hawking $1500 Part 107 paperwork. Snake oil to the fore once again.

Don’t do it. Unlike the 333 which could be applied for without a pilots licence and for free. You need to pass a knowledge test for this one with grown ups. The questions for the sUAS part are not quite resolved but will be by August. Are resolved see below.

Until then everything you need to start thinking about is here

http://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC_107-2.pdf

Print the PDF and make yourself aware of all the bits.

You will not be able to make the learning go away by paying somebody.

The paperwork, systems and procedures the FAA are all outlined and you would do well to start implementing and thinking about a SMS – safety management system way of doing things.

It will save you money in the long run. If you identify a problem early you can stop an action and potentially not crash!

If your potential business might need a COA, to say operate at night or general advice on the new Part 107 process then use lawyers from this site.

http://dronelegalservices.com/

They are industry vetted and know what they are talking about.

Know this about sUAS News, we will never receive kickbacks from lawyers for leads. Other sites are actively doing it and some are even just fronts for law firms that then through their communities funnily enough only recommend themselves.

I welcome Part 107, its simple its all laid out and its harder to hoodwink folk.

If you are being offered something and it looks too good to be true then it probably is. Be careful out there.

A quick update 14 hours after I first wrote this… the FAA released the test for Part 61 pilots today and it contains lots of what you need to study.

Its free! Anyone can take the course.
