We have released a photo of a man we would be like to talk to regarding the rules and regulations around drones.

A video was brought to our attention where this man may have been engaged in the unauthorized flying of a drone in Lincoln.

With Christmas approaching and with these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) ever growing in popularity it is likely that many people will receive a drone as a festive gift.

Do you know the rules of owning and flying one? Here are the basics:

There is nothing to stop you buying a drone as long as it weighs less than 20kg and you are not using it for commercial reasons.

You must avoid flying it within 150 metres of a congested area and 50 metres of a person, vessel, vehicle or structure not under the control of the pilot.

You will also need to fly the aircraft “within sight”. This means you can’t go above 400 feet in altitude or further than 500 metres horizontally. If you want to exceed that, you need to seek explicit permission from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

In the coming weeks we will be talking more about this subject. Please keep an eye on our website and social media profiles if you would like to find out more.

If you know the man shown, or are indeed him, please contact us on 101 quoting incident 69 of 07/12/2015.
