HYDERABAD: After the Cyberabad police, their Hyderabad counterparts have now imposed a ban on remote-controlled drones.

Hyderabad police commissioner M Mahendar Reddy on Monday issued orders prohibiting usage of remote controlled drones, remote-controlled micro light aircraft and para-gliders between September 8 and October 10. “There is an increasing trend by event organizers to use remote-controlled drones for getting aerial views for live telecast and photography of various events. Inputs have been received by intelligence agencies about the possibility of attacks by terrorist or anti-social elements using para-gliders, drones and micro-light aircraft,” the commissioner said in a press release.

In view of the central intelligence inputs, the police commissioner issued orders prohibiting flying of remotely-controlled drones or para-gliders or remotely controlled micro-light aircraft in the Hyderabad city police commissionerate limits without prior police permission.

“No non-government agency, organization or individual will be allowed to launch an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and unmanned aerial survey (UAS). Government agencies and organizations should obtain appropriate clearance from local police and aviation authorities before launching any UAS/UAV for any purpose. Any person contravening this order shall be punished under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860,” the commissioner said.
