A local videography company is taking its business to new heights thanks to drones.

Orlando Aerial Videos received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration on July 14 to shoot aerial cinematography using drones — the second Central Florida company to be approved. The first company to receive approval was Orlando-based CineDrones in April.

Celebration-based Orlando Aerial Videos, which was founded seven months ago, specializes in capturing aerial videos for construction projects and real estate. Company owner and drone pilot Jonathan Arias said the process to receive approval was lengthy and took for nearly four months.

“We started the process in April. You have to send in a pretty long document to explain what the drone will be used for, the safety procedures behind it and the safety features the drone has in place,” Arias said.

The two-employee company at 611 Campus St. owns a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus that is FAA approved. Arias said the drone cost him about $1,100, but it’s already paying for itself, as the company is currently working on three projects that pay anywhere from $400 to $1,500 each.
