COLORADO SPRINGS -A Fort Carson RQ-11 Raven Unmanned Aerial Vehicle — or drone— crashed in a downtown Colorado Springs yard on Tuesday afternoon.

Fort Carson officials said an operator lost contact with the aircraft during increased force protection measures at the post. The crash was reported at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Ronald Fisk found the drone in his mother-in-law’s yard, along Alexander Road between Uintah Street and San Miguel Street.

“It had a camera — like a military camera –with a ball on the front of it that had been broken off and it was moving around,” said Fisk. “I tried to hold my phone number up to it, thinking somebody was watching it, if they’d call my phone. That didn’t work out.”

Fisk said the aircraft’s tail was in a tree.

The drone did not cause any damage or injuries, according to Fort Carson. The drone was recovered. Fort Carson said it was flying in compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

Fort Carson said they are conducting an investigation.
