Nevada Senate Democrats Visit Skyworks AS Lab

Skyworks Aerial Systems opened its doors this month to the Nevada Senate Democrats. Senators Aaron D. Ford, Joyce Woodhouse, David Parks, and Kelvin Atkinson toured our lab and discussed with the team the importance of creating and maintaining talent within the state of Nevada.

“Our biggest export should not be our smartest and brightest,” commented Senator Ford.

And we agree. As a homegrown start-up and a team made up of UNLV alumni, SkyworksAS is completely dedicated to the advancement of STEM education and entrepreneurship in our home state.

Fortunately, FAA approval for testing in Nevada is a big step towards changing its economic drive. Creating jobs and the training future dronesmiths can have a great impact on our state’s main source of revenue.

“Nevada is in a position to be a major centerpiece in the world of drones,” comments Greg Friesmuth, “drones have the potential to thrive here and become the next big industry for the state.”

It is estimated that the UAV industry is to create 15,000 jobs in Nevada alone. Creating incentives for our brightest students to stay within the state is imperative for the prosperity of our state economy and the emerging UAV industry may just be the answer.

In any case, we’re glad to have the Nevada Senate Democrats on board.
