Mötley Crüe hire Unmanned Experts to keep up with Tommy Lee’s aerial show.

Mötley Crüe’s ‘The Final Tour’ took on Denver this August 2nd with an incredible aerial drum solo by legendary band member Tommy Lee who took his entire drum kit airborne and inverted while travelling over a high altitude roller-coaster track called ‘The Crüecifly’

Tommy Lee, who recently started flying his own DJI Phantom 2 for fun, wanted the sequence filmed from every angle, and his Production Director, Bobby Hewitt, hired Unmanned Experts’ (UMEX) lead SUAS pilot (pictured) and safety team to get footage of the aerial display. After talking with the Crüe (sic), running a safety assessment and a number of practices, it was time…

A great opening from Alice Cooper led to the Final Tour set and the videos speak for themselves, but keep the volume down if there are children present: http://youtu.be/KqmLjmNMjjs and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p3SYRzeTjg. It was an intense and challenging job, and one that demonstrates yet again the flexibility of HD payloads on Small UAS. There are a dozen safety considerations if you are planning any indoor flying event, so please “don’t try this at home kids” until you understand the risks and have the confidence and competence to take it on.

UMEX runs a number of Small UAS flying instruction courses as well, which also qualify for insurance coverage, and come highly recommended for those wishing to improve their flight skills as well as their professional knowledge. Hope to meet at a gig somewhere soon!
