FLIR Lepton

Lepton

Lepton™, an ultra-compact thermal imaging camera for easy integration in consumer electronics such as Smartphones, tablets and other handheld devices.

Lepton is 34 times smaller, 20 times lighter than the smallest thermal imaging cameras currently available, making it the perfect fit for just about any consumer electronics device.

Designers only need to supply standard mobile industry voltages and a clock to Lepton, which then provides high-quality, fully-processed thermal images through mobile industry standard interfaces. Lepton employs similar design and manufacturing principles that have allowed high-quality, compact and cost-effective visible cameras to become a smartphone checklist item.

Lepton uses a breakthrough lens fabricated in wafer form, a microbolometer FPA, and advanced thermal image processing on an ASIC. Lepton is fully compatible with FLIR’s patented multi-spectral imaging (MSX) technology, which allows visible and thermal image streams to be combined for sharper, more visually pleasing hybrid images. FLIR has developed the Lepton supply chain to be compatible consumer electronics volume and quality expectations.

Lepton makes a multitude of new mobile applications including applications possible, including health, safety, temperature measurement, enhanced user interfaces, presence detection, and much, much more.

Lepton Applications

Adding Lepton to mobile devices alone can give consumers a host of powerful new capabilities, like:

  • Safety & Security – see people lurking around dark parking lots or intruders in your yard, even in the middle of the night.
  • Home Repair & Energy Efficiency – find hidden air leaks and electrical waste around the home; Lepton also helps you see wall studs and joists, missing insulation, and water damage.
  • Building Automation & Presence Detection – using Lepton as a sensor to detect when people have entered a pre-defined area will create an automated way to operate doors, activate HVAC systems, count people in a room, find empty parking spaces, and much more.
