With the takeover of the brand MULTIROTOR in spring 2013 the redevelopment of the likely most efficient, most flexible and safest flight control began. While the previous three multicopter generations from service-drone still flew with components of Mikrokopter, the intelligent control mode of the fourth generation exceeds everything that has been known so far. The layout is based on the MULTIROTOR board and was newly configured with a variety of additional functionalities, the latest hardware architecture and a completely revised software.
This development which only took about nine months and caused development costs of about EURO 350,000.- will totally replace the previous multicopter control modes from now on. As core of hardware even two 32-bit processors offer about 10 times more computing capacity than before. This enormous computing power enables high-precision coordination of every move of the copter. Likewise accurate is the flight data log on board which allows the most exact data recording 128 times per second. In connection with the most modern hardware architecture, high precision components for position sensing and sensor technology, flight manoeuvres which never have been thought possible are realisable as well as the most precise positioning of drone and camera during the flight.
Another outstanding advantage is the control of the drone via scripting language. So it is amongst other things blindingly easy to plan complete flight missions with Apple iPad and to execute fully autonomous flights. Inspection fights can now be flown without a conventional hand-held or console remote control by the iPad. Here, the team of technical developers has put user-friendliness and dead easy flying at the center of attention. Practically, the drone flies itself, whereby the pilot only takes corrective action, if required. Performances such as autostart, position hold, coming home and auto landing are by finger touch as easy as never before. Additionally, there are some totally new auto flight features such as Carefree 2.0, GoAhead and automatic circle flights around film motifs. With the new multi menu feature, all settings can be made directly via the control on the airfield. That much comfort and functionality is unique.
Also extreme complex flight operations as required for 2D and 3D mapping are completed almost by itself by the intelligent service-drone. All necessary parameters are considered and maximum security is taken into account at the same time. Emergency landing procedures and a constant control of traction batteries provide a high level of safety. Another plus is the referenced GPS receiver with HF amplifier and filter funciton which exceeds the quality of data collection and positional accuracy by a multiple of the current components.
The enhanced sensor technology, the plus of computing power and the for the first time real orientation angel calculation instead of approximation allow an absolutely precise copter flight and correction of the axis of the camera mount. The tilting of the horizon which is typical for Mikrokopter is now a thing of the past. The results are precise camera trips, highest 5K image stability and new perspectives. Also new at service-drone are optionally available brushless gimbals for an extremely fast camera alignment turned in two or three axis for the most important aerial image cameras Canon 5D and RED epic. Optimised drives with specially developed three-blade rotors, inter alia made by Plettenberg, provide even further improved flight performances.
