TEHRAN – Iran unveiled its largest domestically manufactured unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a ceremony held in Tehran on Monday attended by Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan.

The UAV, named the Fotros, which has been designed and manufactured by experts at Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Company affiliated with the Aviation Industries Organization of the Defense Ministry, has an operational range of 2,000 kilometers and flight endurance of up to 30 hours, and can fly at an altitude of up to 25,000 feet.
In the ceremony, the defense minister said that the Fotros drone could be used for reconnaissance and surveillance operations and had the potential to carry out combat operations if equipped with air-to-ground missiles and other types of rockets.
He also said that aircraft had successfully undergone various tests.
In addition, he said that the Defense Ministry had achieved self-sufficiency in designing and manufacturing various types of offensive, defensive, and reconnaissance drones.
In September, the Iranian Army unveiled its newest domestically manufactured unmanned aerial vehicle, named the Yasir.
The Yasir UAV, which has been designed and manufactured by competent Iranian experts, has a range of 200 kilometers and is capable of flying nonstop for 8 hours.
The drone is equipped with advanced cameras enabling it to efficiently conduct surveillance missions.
Iran’s first domestically manufactured long-range UAV, named the Karrar, was successfully tested in August 2010. The aircraft’s ability to fly at high altitudes is its significant feature.
