Turner encouraged after FAA meeting on UAV test sites

U.S. Rep. Mike Turner, R-Centerville, said a meeting this week with the FAA to discuss unmanned aircraft was encouraging.

The Wednesday meeting came on the heels of the FAA’s recent announcement it postponed selection of six unmanned aircraft test sites. The Dayton region is vying to become a testing site.

Right now testing of the craft — also known as UAVs or UAS’ — is done on a limited basis under very restricted conditions, so getting the Dayton area designated as a test site would make it much easier to fly and thereby draw a whole crop of companies dedicated to designing and manufacturing the aircraft and other related products.
