Gill Sensors to Showcase Compact Weather Station for UAV Ground Control Systems at AUVSI 12

Gill Sensors, a leading developer of specialist electronics and sensing equipment for harsh environment applications, will showcase the MetPak compact weather station at AUVSI’s Unmanned Systems North America 2012.

MetPak, which is manufactured and sold by Gill Sensors’ sister company Gill Instruments Ltd, is a compact, robust, multi-sensor device capable of providing reliable information about current weather conditions.

The unit provides industry leading accuracy, incorporating the Gill WindSonic ultrasonic wind speed and direction sensor, a Rotronic Hygroclip HC2-S3 temperature/relative humidity probe housed in a naturally aspirated radiation shield and high accuracy (±0.5hPa) barometric pressure sensor housed in a vented enclosure. The unit also has optional expansion capability for up to four additional external measurement sensors.

On-board processing electronics provide RS232, RS422 or RS485 outputs (user selectable), with a very low overall power requirement.

With no moving parts to jam, break or wear out, MetPak provides excellent long-term reliability in harsh operating conditions; and the unique transducer arrangement on the integral WindSonic Wind Sensor ensures that the unit performance is unaffected by rainfall.

MetPak is a ruggedized, lightweight weather station suitable for installation on a tripod or vehicle mast via a single clamp mount. At just 1.1kg complete, the unit is extremely portable and suitable for rapid deployment by a single operator.

MetPak is supplied with Gill’s new MetView display and logging software, which has been designed to clearly display current weather conditions to system operators and can be configured to match specific display requirements as necessary.

The MetPak weather station and MetView software will be displayed on the Gill Sensors booth at AUVSI’s Unmanned Systems North America 2012 (#747) alongside Gill’s range of UAV fuel level sensors and micro position sensors for robotics and unmanned systems.
