RAeS Unmanned Aircraft Systems Innovation Award
The Royal Aeronautical Society’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Specialist Group (UAS SG) wishes to offer three lucky undergraduates and post-graduates the opportunity to present at its annual conference on 19 – 20 September 2012.
The last 10 years has finally seen the birth of a new sector in the aerospace industry through the almost routine use of UAS technology by the military. This has accelerated many areas of aerospace development leading to capable remote aircraft system operations.
The driver for any industry is necessity: the necessity to increase capability, reduce cost and be more effective at doing what has to be done. Necessity is also the “Mother of Invention”.
Being innovative is the first step. It is about understanding how to use technology effectively and seeing ways to combine elements that may even already exist into a working concept that can address a real world issue in its implementation. For instance, a single image of a field could tell a farmer when a crop is ripe, where water is required or if fertiliser needs to be applied in certain areas where the soil is poorer. However getting this image at a time, price and quality that is 100% effective is another matter.
In just 20 minutes the RAeS UAS SG wishes to give you and two other co-presenters the opportunity to present to a world class audience of UAS experts on your innovation which could be a system, sub-system, component, payload, sensor or application concept that would enhance capability, reduce costs or make a UAS operation more effective.
All we need at this stage is an abstract of no more than 500 words, submitted to conference@aerosociety.com (ref #694) by the 30 June that explains the innovation at a high level for our committee to review. The three best submissions will be invited to present your innovation to the delegates at the Annual Conference on 20 September at the Royal Aeronautical Society HQ at No.4 Hamilton Place, London. The delegates will vote on the best innovation to receive the RAeS UAS SG University Innovation Award and a cheque for £500.00.
