Occupy protesters to target Iowa drone facility

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Occupy Wall Street activists are protesting plans for a California firm to open a location in Cedar Rapids where it plans to build drones that will be used for emergency response and police work.

AirCover Integrated Solutions has announced plans to locate in the historic Cherry Building and start making its small unmanned aerial vehicles early next year. The drones weigh less than five pounds and can be navigated to help authorities do everything from search for lost people to manage forest fires and floods.

Protesters say they are concerned the drones will be used by police to conduct surveillance on law-abiding citizens. They are planning a rally in Cedar Rapids on Saturday protesting the company.

Company President James Hill says fears are misguided and the vehicles will save lives.
