IMAV 2011 results

International experts in the field of autonomous aircraft technology gathering of 12 to 15 September 2011 on the Veluwe to participate in a contest for tiny flyers. The planes had to independently perform tasks such as tracking and analysis of a (simulated) drug deal.

The contest is part of the International Micro Air Vehicle Conference (IMAV 2011 “Summer Edition”) for the second time in the Netherlands held: from Monday 12 th Thursday, September 15 at the Defence Land at ‘t Harde.

Autonomous aircraft are smaller than 80 cm and can independently, without human control, complex tasks. “Think of the monitoring of dikes or oil pipelines, or measuring toxic substances in the air, such as fires. Also to keep track of large crowds, such as the marches or Queen is the technology used, “said Bart Remes, a researcher at the university.

Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) are small flying robotic systems. With their light weight and small size, they form ideal platforms for both research and real-world applications, both civil and military. The development of MAVs requires advanced knowledge from areas such as electronics, mechanics, aerodynamics, navigation and control, and many more.

Objective IMAV events:

The main objective of the International Micro Air Vehicle (IMAV) conference and competitions is to provide an effective and established forum for dissemination and demonstration of original and recent advances in MAV technology.
