Sinclair College to offer UAS courses.

Sinclair Community College is partnering with two Dayton based industry leaders to offer training for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Woolpert, a national leader in geospatial data collection and analysis, the University of Dayton’s Institute for the Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technology (IDCAST), one of the nation’s most prominent advanced sensor related research and development centers, and Sinclair Community College, a nationally acclaimed community college, are launching the region’s first UAV training program as part of a National UAV Education, Training and Certification Center at Sinclair.

This initial three to five day program is targeted to launch in June and will be aimed at companies and individuals interested in learning more about the role of UAV payload operators. The training will be a combination of classroom instruction and simulation focusing on sensor technologies, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the operation of UAVs in different environments, data links and paths, and the integration of UAV systems. The training will take place at three locations including IDCAST in Tech Town, Sinclair’s location at Miami Valley Research Park in Kettering, and Sinclair’s downtown Dayton campus.

The introductory training will utilize the assets, talent, and facilities of the three partners including IDCAST’s UAV Operator and simulator platform from Tiltan Systems Engineering Ltd., a leading provider of 3 Dimensional and 2 Dimensional image generation systems and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) processing software.

“UAV’s are an emerging growth market and the Dayton region expects to play a leading role in its development,” said Deb Norris, Sinclair Vice President for Workforce Development and Corporate Services. “This initial training program demonstrates our continued commitment to the establishment of a National UAV Education, Training and Certification Center at Sinclair Community College.”

As part of the creation of this Center, Sinclair is also leading collaborative regional efforts to establish dedicated airspace in southwestern Ohio for training on UAV operations.
