Tiruvannamalai police have advised a foreigner, who had come to Sri Ramana Ashram, not to use an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that he had brought to the country.

Police are also conducting inquiry to check his antecedents. A senior police officer said preliminary inquiry found nothing suspicious about him.

Joseph Benjamin Murrel (27) of London had come to Tiruvannamalai on December 14.

He was staying in Sri Ramana Ashram in the town and was carrying a UAV.

He had reportedly sought permission from the ashram authorities to take photographs of the Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple.

Police, on knowing about his possession of a UAV, advised him not to use it.

The police officer said this was his first visit to the country and he was not aware about the rules and regulations.

“We advised him not to use the UAV. We are conducting further inquiries into his antecedents, and preliminary inquiry found nothing suspicious about him,” the officer said.
