Nexutech Founder Named “Virginia Aviation Person of 2016”

Nexutech founder and President Jay Willmott has been named “Virginia Person of the Year Award” by the Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) during the annual Virginia Aviation Conference held in Hot Springs, Virginia this week.

DOAV Executive Director Randy Burdette announced the award at the Conference’s annual banquet at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia on Wednesday night.

Nexutech President Jay Willmott said he “felt honored to be selected for the award”, and said “it is a reflection on the growth and increasing acceptance of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS, or drones) by both the general public and general aviation communities, and how they are working together. “

Willmott was recognized for his efforts to develop the unmanned aviation industry in Virginia through his leadership of the Hampton Roads Chapter of AUVSI (the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems, International ) and his “dedication to building state and local STEM education activities”, noted DOAV.

Willmott recently led the Tidewater Drone Club’s performance of a flight demonstration by the local hobby organization at Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport, for which representatives from DOAV, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) were consulted.
