ARPAS-UK Working with Farnborough International

Farnborough International became a member of ARPAS-UK, the professional trade association for Remotely Piloted Aircraft and Systems in the UK, in April 2016.  The two organisations are working together on the Drone Safety Awareness Weekend, 16th / 17th July 2016, as part of the UK Drone Show at Farnborough International Airshow.   ARPAS-UK will also be exhibiting at the main Farnborough International Airshow trade event on Stand 3/D125, Hall 3, focussing on UAV operations Beyond Visual Line of Sight, BVLOS, as part of Project AIRSTART, a consortium led by Airbus Group Innovations, as well as staging a BVLOS Seminar on Thursday 14th July in the Hendon Room, Media Centre, upper floor on Hall 1a.

Seminar: Operating UAVs Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS)

Thursday 14th July in the Hendon Room, Media Centre, upper floor on Hall 1a.

This Seminar, organised by ARPAS-UK and the AIRSTART Consortium, led by Airbus Group Innovations, will be of interest to anyone manufacturing or operating UAVs, or interested in their broader applications.  It will also provide an opportunity for a direct Q&A session with a panel of experts in the field.

Commercial small UAVs are becoming ubiquitous in our society, in applications from film-making to surveying. However, one issue is seriously limiting their widescale use – the ability to safely and routinely operate and gather information outside of line of sight of the operator. Key activities of significant benefit to society will only be realised if UAVs can safely operate over longer distances.  This seminar addresses key technical issues which underpin safe BVLOS operations, including optical communications, airspace integration and propulsion systems, particularly for applications in search and rescue and inspection of electricity transmission and distribution networks.

The event is free to attend, but please pre-register by emailing the organisers at Carey.Bensonblair@arpas.uk by Friday 8th July 2016.  Late applicants may be able to gain a place, subject to availability, by visiting the ARPAS-UK stand, Hall 3, Stand 3/D125, by 12 noon on Wednesday 13th July 2016.
