Spectral Sky, Inc., a new commercial company, with decades of experience testing, and operating the renowned MQ-1 and MQ-9 Predator/Reaper drones, today announced successful final flight testing of its new 4,550 Gross Weight SS-300M Atlas, that features a single pilot + ground-based sensor operator with over 15 hours loiter and top speed of 300 knots. Atlas joins the SS-100A Sierra in Spectral Sky’s suite of mid-weight, low-cost, open-source, and inter-operable airborne data collection platforms.

Spectral Sky CEO Bill Reynolds, said, “Our Company is focused on bringing the most advanced solutions in the airborne surveillance space to new customers — and — crashing prices. With electronics and even aircraft themselves — carbon construction requiring less labor and enabling lighter and more aerodynamic airframes — one would think, that the costs of acquiring and operating airborne collection systems should have dropped in recent decades. But so far that is not the case. Until now.”

Reynolds spent 10 years in the Air Force and was formerly COO of Unmanned Systems Inc., a defense contracting company with decades of unmanned operations experience. Reynolds continued, “We are bringing the Atlas to market with premium performance and sensor capabilities that are expected in the defense market — but at prices that make aerial data collection a reality for the commercial market.”

Leading a New & Affordable Middle Market for Airborne Data Collection Products and Services

The Spectral Sky solution portfolio resets price expectations in the mid-to-heavy weight fixed-wing UAS airframe market,” said Brad Hayden, president and CEO of Robotic Skies, Spectral Sky’s maintenance partner.

“While its design philosophies are firmly rooted in aviation safety and reliability, the platform’s ability to incorporate the latest fully featured – and increasingly affordable – technologies are game changers for the industry.”
