HENAN – A video showing a close encounter between a civilian drone and a fighter jet in the skies above a medium-sized city has raised concern about the lack of regulation over the use of drones.

The video posted online was filmed from a stationary civilian drove hovering above the unnamed city when the fighter jet, with its landing gear deployed, flew by just hundreds of metres away at the same altitude.

The fighter jet looked like it was preparing to land when it narrowly passed by the drone at high speed, travelling in and out of the picture in seconds.

It was not the first time that a remote-controlled drone had endangered an aircraft, Xinhua reported.

Drones have become increasingly popular in many civilian sectors such as land and resource exploration, remote sensing monitoring and insecticide spraying.

At present the flight of civilian drones in unregulated.

Qiao Shanxun, a specialist in aviation security, said there was a growing risk that drones would disturb civilian and military fights, leak national security or infringe on privacy, Xinhua said.

“The collectors are our money knocking at the door. You are incompetent if you fail to grasp them,” was one of the exhortations during a daily motivational meeting to staff, the reporter wrote.

The report also said client information was bought for 0.5 yuan per item and was shared among various auction firms.
